2015 Auckland Downwind Winter Series: RACE 4

http://www.pacificoceanpaddlers.com/index.php/results/100-auckland-downwind-winter-series-race-8

The start of the fourth and final Auckland Downwind Winter Series for 2015 was a blur of colour and highly charged action as the 70 odd SUP, Waka-Ama and Surfski paddlers raced across the sand to their craft.

Fitting warm spring weather greeted the 70 odd paddlers for Race 4 of the 2015 Auckland Downwind Winter Series. A mass start for all Long and Short Course paddlers from Okahu Bay created a colorful spectacle for the growing bystanders, and a daredevil motorised paraglider swooping just overhead of the startline for the multi-lap Hobson Bay Humdinger course completed the picture!

GOOD OLD 'HOBSON BAY HUMDINGER!'

Lack of any significant winds prompted the 'Hobson Bay Humdinger' course for the final race of the 2015 ADWS race.

Long course competitors set off for three laps around the Hobson Bay Humdinger course, with newbie Max Riley showing what the Sydney-Squad can do!

Is the weather for Race 4 a premonition for the El Nino summer we should be expecting in 2015/2016?

It was quite incredible to see the colour and energy of 70 paddlers racing off the beach with SUP's, Surfski's and Waka-Ama's from the comfort of the water safety craft. The kids we mucking about in the Star Kayaks off to the right, and the main field quickly formed up behind early leaders Andy Mowlem and Mike Walker.
