Royal Akarana Club

Find out more about the largest surfski paddling club in Auckland by clicking here! Royal Akarana is perfectly located for paddlers based central to Auckland, or south/west Auckland.

Royal Akarana Yacht club is steeped in history. While surfski paddling is a fairly recent addition to their portfolio, the is a sudden growing interest and numbers from central based paddlers for SUP and Surfski. Handily located nearby to Fergs Kayaks and a number of nearby waka-ama clubs, there is always plenty of activity on the water. The clubhouse is about to be re-built, but there is great dialogue between the club's management and the paddling members, meaning there is plenty of focus on maintaining operational facilities throughout the construction phase.

There is generally someone at the club most mornings and evenings, summer or winter (seriously!) but the intermediate, beginner/social and advanced/elite regulars (you know who you are, rock-stars!) can be found paddling at:

Tuesday 6:00 am Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced: Normally high intensity, technique or drill focussed. Something for everyone.
Friday 6:00 am Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced: Normally (1h) crossfit focussed - prepare to be sore! Coffee afterwards at TRUE.
Saturday 7:30 am Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced: Generally longer paddles (2h) around Browns or Rangitoto Islands, or Downwind paddles with trailer!
Sunday 8:00 am Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced: Reserved for longer paddles, or Downwinds with club trailer.

Not to be missed is the post-session bacon-and-egg breakie feed on Saturdays, where the rest of the family often joins the paddlers. Pretty social and the food is damn good too.
