Garth Spencer

Garth Spencer grew up in South Africa, in a small town called Fish Hoek, some would say the modern day home of surfski paddling. At age 9 he started paddling his first ski, and has competed in surf-lifesaving, marathon canoeing, ocean-racing and multisport/adventure-racing events at various levels since age of 14. With his fiercely competitive spirit, Garth is no stranger to the podium. With an enthusiasm bordering on that of an Olympian (but typically with results firmly grounding him as a club level athlete) Garth loves to ‘talk it up’, and is passionate in particular about surfski paddling. With his wife Kelly and two boys Aran (6) and Tai (9) summers are filled with multiday kayaking camping trips, and weekends with with surfski races and paddling adventures. Overseas holidays generally coincide with the Surfski World Series! Garth is an ex naval officer who was once posted in Antarctica, who now works as a telecommunications Project Director for his day-job, but also sells the fastest surfskis in the world from, and rep’s for Vaikobi paddlewear at Watch-out for his articles on the Pacific Ocean Paddlers website, or his latest news and musings on the Pacific Ocean Paddlers Facebook Group!
